How to Become a Christian

Becoming a Christian means having a personal relationship with God...being set free from guilt and fear...finding genuine peace and joy in your life...discovering a reason for living. Becoming a Christian is both very important and very personal. You enter into a personal relationship with God by accepting His offer of forgiveness and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. This means that new life in Christ is possible because of God's generosity-and does not depend upon good works, baptism or any other effort on your part. God requires that you turn from trying to do things your way and relying on yourself, to trusting in Him and living life His way. The following Scriptures present the message of God's undying love for people and His plan for bringing them into relationship with Himself. God loves us. (John 3:16, Romans 5:8) We are all sinful and separated from God. (Romans 3:23) Our sin carries a penalty. (Romans 6:23) Jesus Christ paid the penalty for us. (Romans 5:8, II Corinthians 5:21, I Peter 3:18) Salvation is God's generous gift; it is not earned. (Ephesians 2:8, 9) You must ask Christ to forgive your sin and save you.
