When:

• Generally, every 2nd weekend of the following months: February, April, June, August, October and December.
• Put these dates on your calendar NOW for 2009.  Waiting to make the decision doesn't work for most of us-we fill up the calendar with other things, but if you choose one (or more) weekends now and set it aside for this work, you will be more likely to stay committed! Feb 13-15, April 10-12, May 7-10, June 12-14, August 7-9, October 9-11, December 10-13.
• We will meet at the church at 4:00 pm on Friday night. Be prepared to return late on Sunday evening (generally between 5-7 pm, although things do happen!).

Cost:

• Plan to purchase 3--4 meals, most of which will be fast food.  Saturday evening will be at a restaurant, both breakfasts and Saturday lunch are provided, but a donation to Casa de Amor for these meals helps them use the other donations they receive directly for the orphanage.   Generally $50-70 is plenty.
• Plan to bring some of your own favorite snacks, drinks, and plenty of water.
• See Transportation options for gas expenses.
• You may want to bring extra personal money for emergencies, wal-mart purchases, souvenirs in Mexico, or opportunities to give while down there.  We almost always run into one specific giving opportunity while there (someone needs money for a surgery, a baby needs a special kind of formula, someone's electricity is about to be shut off, etc.).

Transportation:

• We take our own church van down.  Individuals can volunteer to pitch in to cover gas expenses, although the church will provide gas money.

Sleeping:

• Most people choose to take air mattresses and/or sleeping bags (a sheet is usually plenty in the summer months).   We will stay at the orphanage both  nights. There are single sized bunk beds available, some cots, and you can use your air mattresses on the floor.  Lots of shower facilities there.

What Would I Do:

• There are often basic/general maintenance items to do, including painting, placing light fixtures, repairing damage to walls, putting in cabinets, etc. for those who are so inclined.  Those who have specific training/skills can bring their personal equipment to help.
• Play with the kids, love on them, carry them around, sing to them, play games with them, change diapers.
• Help sort out food donations into buckets for later delivery.
• Go with the prayer ministry team as they deliver the food buckets to homes and pray with the homeowners.
• Individual or team prayer walking.
• General cleaning projects, organizing food pantry.

If you think you would like to go sometime, please let me know and I will add you to the list.  If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to call!
